What is the Ride to Conquer Cancer?

It is a 2-day major cycling event from Toronto to Niagara Falls benefiting The Princess Margaret Hospital, one of the top 5 cancer research hospitals in the world. The Princess Margaret Hospital is Canada's leading comprehensive institution devoted to cancer research and care, and the work they're doing is leading-edge.

Who is doing this ride?

My name is Alexandra Arduini. I am 24 years old and it is my first time participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer on team Dream Riders. I am riding for my family and friends who have suffered, survived and who are currently battling cancer. Last year, my father and close friends participated in the ride and I witnessed first hand the challenges and emotions that were endured and overcome throughout those two days. Having watched riders, cancer patients and survivors riding through the streets of Ontario, I was so overcome with emotion seeing the smiles and the tears that I decided this year I wanted to be a part of that journey. I want to help conquer cancer and challenge myself mentally, emotionally and physically to
get to that finish line and put an 'end' to this heartbreaking disease.

When I say "heartbreaking," here's what I mean: according to the National Cancer Institute of Canada, over 153,100 new cases of cancer and 70,400 deaths from cancer were estimated to occur in 2006. Men outnumber women for new cases by 5% and mortality by 11%. That's why I'm riding. To do something BIG about cancer.

Proceeds from the Blast Ball Tournament will go towards sponsoring Alexandra Arduini in her 200km ride. Subsequently, The Princess Margaret Hospital will receive the funds to support cancer research, treatment, and services.
